Employee Relations Manager
The Employee Relations Manager will govern the union free strategy and will provide employees and managers the interpretation and application of organizational policies and procedures. The ER Manager will directly interact with all levels of employees to provide council and direction on all issues related to employee relations in an unbiased and consistent manner while operating within appropriate Federal, State and Local employment laws. This position reports to the Plant Human Resources Manager and will work closely with our corporate HR, Labor and Legal departments as well as the plant senior leadership team.
Position Responsibilities
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field. Experience in collective bargaining unit environment strongly preferred. PHR or SPHR a plus.
Three or more years of Employee/Labor Relations experience preferably within food Manufacturing and union free environment.
Experience conducting internal investigations in order to quickly gather the facts surrounding a complaint/issue.
Demonstrated ability to formulate recommendations for corrective action based on investigation findings & internal policies and procedures that are in compliance with applicable federal, state and/or local employment laws.
Acts as advisor, mediator, and counselor to employers, managers, on all employee relations issues.
Demonstrated knowledge of Federal, State and local employment laws.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Independent thinker.
Strong organizational, documentation and attention to detail skills.
Ability to represent the company in a professional and competent manner.
Position Qualifications
Maintains regular and constant connection to employees to learn their thoughts and to identify issues. Shares information with leadership team, including making recommendations on issue resolution. Communicates company position to employees as needed.
Ensures plant management receives adequate training and interpretation assistance in Policy and Legal Compliance topics as well as Union Avoidance strategies.
Monitors compliance with company policy and applicable legal requirements regarding union avoidance and employment processes and proactively works to address employee relations issues through strategic management interaction
Ability to work on all three shifts as needed.
Ensures employee complaint programs and processes are providing necessary support to employees and leadership in problem resolution
Conducts periodic employee focus groups in partnership with company leadership to ensure ER issues are being surfaced and addressed in a timely manner
Coaches and mentors staff to ensure engagement and productivity levels are maintained; provides regular, ongoing and consistent feedback and communication.
Investigates employee relations issues and makes appropriate recommendations according to federal and state employee regulations. Partners with management and HR to ensure corrective action plan is implemented. Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to all issues.
