Salary: Scale 6: £24,049 – £27,854 per annum pro rata

Stranmillis University College (Belfast) was founded in 1922 to provide teacher education in Northern Ireland on a non-denominational basis. The University College’s mission is: “To sustain a critical community of educational excellence in teaching, scholarship and research in a shared learning environment where diversity is welcomed, in order to help meet the professional needs of society in Northern Ireland and beyond.” In recent years, the College’s vision has expanded its portfolio of courses beyond teacher education to include a selective range of professionally-related academic programmes.

An opportunity has now arisen for Research Officer to join our CREDIT project team. CREDIT is an exciting new range of professional development courses created by Stranmillis University College, in partnership with St. Mary’s University College, funded by the International Fund for Ireland. The courses aim to serve teachers in Northern Ireland, working in all phases and sectors, to help them develop skills and confidence in dealing with issues of diversity, inclusion and community cohesion in the classroom and on a whole-school basis.

The successful candidate will be required to carry out a variety of tasks including: conducting literature searches and reviews; contributing to project design and methodology; carrying out qualitative and quantitative data analysis and critically reviewing findings of primary and secondary data analysis; undertaking field research; contributing to the dissemination of project findings through the preparation of journal articles (as named author).

Applicants must have a degree and experience of preparing material for journal publications/ research reports/ presentations at conferences. Experience of designing appropriate qualitative and quantitative data collection methods and of undertaking field research to collect and obtain reliable data are also required, as is competence in the use of software used in qualitative and quantitative analysis, e.g., SPSS, NVivo. Preference will be given to candidates who hold or are currently undertaking a PhD in a related discipline
