Fixed Term Research Assistant

Salary scale: £27,047 per annum (pro-rata if part time)
Applicants are invited for the position of Fixed Term Research Assistant in the College of Human and Health Sciences. The post is fixed term until 17th March 2014.
The Research Assistant will join a project team working on an ESRC-funded project titled ‘Maintaining function and well-being in later life: a longitudinal cohort study’. The project involves collaboration with Bangor, Liverpool and Cambridge Universities, and aims to recruit 2500 older people in South Wales (and a similar number in North Wales), who will be evaluated on two occasions, two years apart. The evaluation will include aspects of psychological and social function, as well as physical health factors. The study will provide important information regarding ageing and well-being and on the influence of psychological and social changes on the lives of older people in Wales. Combined with some overlapping data from a parallel study in England, the study will also
provide definitive, up-to-date figures on the prevalence and incidence of cognitive impairment and dementia in the UK.
The post-holder will be specifically responsible for overseeing the study of older people and / or their families in South Wales. They will liaise with the other Universities in the project and oversee the activities of the interviews (whilst also undertaking interviews themselves if appropriate)
Applicants should be possess a degree in social science, sociology, psychology, medicine or a related subject or equivalent experience in a relevant field, relevant research or practical/clinical experience with older people with experience of people based research, and have ddemonstrable ability to travel to participants’ homes in order to conduct interviews when deemed appropriate.
