Job Description
The Senior Web Developer within Marketing Special Events digital team will be responsible for the design development and maintenance of highimpact highvisibility websites at UCLA such as httpuclaedu httpuclaedu all with the goal of keeping UCLA in the forefront among university and consumer web sites The lead web developer will also research analyze and formulate recommendations on industry best practices and new ways to leverage technologies and heshe will possess a determination to evolve and grow skill sets in response to the volatile web environment
This position reports to the Associate Director of Digital and supervises a team of full time (Web Developer) and part time staff (student Web Programmer) Duties include meeting with clients and creating and developing websites mobile email and web applications proposing and implementing incremental improvements based on web traffic analysis and industry trends and working collaboratively with a crossfunctional team comprised of web designers social media writers editors print designers and other marketing team members to design and develop appropriate website content Key member of Communications and Public Outreach Crisis Management Team Occasionally work directly with the Senior Director of Marketing on timeurgent updates and projects
QUALIFICATIONS
1 Expert knowledge and experience in designing and developing websites with HTML and CSS that adhere to current W3C and WCAG standardscompliant code
2 Expert knowledge and experience of PHP programming and MySQL database Expert knowledge and experience programming with JavaScript AJAX and third party APIs including but not limited to Facebook Twitter and YouTube
3 Broad understanding of technical issues including server and operating system environments as they relate to web site operation
4 Expert knowledge and ability to develop manage and maintain static and dynamic web pages and sites for crossplatform and browser compatibility including but not limited to Internet Explorer 7+ Firefox Chrome Safari Windows and Mac
5 Working knowledge and experience with mobile design and development including responsive design and mobilefirst
6 Knowledge of user experience (UX) accessibility information architecture (IA) design principles form design and grid layouts
7 Ability to translate original or provided design composites or mockups to current W3C and WCAG standardscompliant code using HTML CSS JavaScript jQuery and AJAX and PHP
8 Experience with Git version control system and UnixLinuxSolaris
9 Experience with JIRA issue tracking system
10 Experience with Apache and Shibboleth
11 Familiarity with traditional print and electronic design principles Demonstrated skill in graphics applications such as Photoshop and Flash
12 Ability to quickly identify and evaluate relevant new technologies
13 Knowledge and experience working and developing with content management systems such as WordPress and Plone
14 Willingness to explore and learn new software tools and new versions of existing tools including Content Management Systems such as WordPress Plone and Krang
15 Ability to understand the aspect of complex multilevel projects from initial definition through completion including planning establishing goals objectives and milestones scheduling tracking and evaluating
16 Possess strong communication and presentation skills when communicating technical and nontechnical information to persons of varying backgrounds technical expertise and levels of authority
17 Ability to prioritize assignments and work effectively in complex environment involving rapidly changing priorities heavy workloads physical disruptions and highly fluid authority structures and demonstrate experience in helping lead and manage web projects
18 Ability to communicate effectively on a regular basis with team members as well as with clients on job progress Willingness to work collaboratively and possess solid interpersonal skills
19 Ability to recommend coordinate and communicate functional page descriptions and navigational direction to ensure that designs achieve communications objectives
20 Skill in working independently and following through on assignments Ability to problem solve make changes and corrections as they occur and to offer appropriate solutions
21 Skill in interpreting a clients needs based on nature of project budget and objectives
22 Willingness to keep abreast of industry trends and technologies and contribute frequent suggestions
23 Working knowledge of the University its organization and structure and the roles and responsibilities of various academic and administrative units in order to relate project needs to sound design communication solutions is preferred
24 Knowledge of UCLA icons history and graphic presentations familiarity with UCLA graphic identity system is preferred
25 Bachelors degree in computer science design or related field is preferred Continued employment contingent upon completion of satisfactory background investigation
