The School of Chemistry is looking to appoint a full-time Research Assistant to join Professor Guy C Lloyd-Jones Group in the field of organic and organometallic reaction mechanisms.

The research will involve the investigation of the development of systems to ‘catch and release’ homogenous catalysts and will be in collaboration with a small consortium of companies: Phosphonix, AstraZeneca, Syngenta, CatSci, AMRI. In addition to research, the successful candidate will be expected to aid in the day to day running of a medium sized research group, to guide and aid undergraduate and postgraduate researcher workers in the group. There will also be the opportunity for the successful candidate to be involved in some teaching at undergraduate level (workshops/tutorials) should they wish.

We are seeking to appoint an exceptional vertebrate anatomist/ palaeobiologist to work on a project on the evolution of feathers and colours in birds and dinosaurs. This is a postdoctoral position and applicants must have a PhD and top-quality publications; some postdoctoral experience will be a great advantage.

You will join a team of six researchers based in Bristol, Dublin and Beijing who are working on the feather ultrastructure, and evidence for colour (melanosomes) in the exceptionally preserved feathers of birds and dinosaurs from the Jehol Group (Early Cretaceous) of NE China. The post is based in Bristol, but involves travel to China for research purposes, and presentations at leading international conferences.

This full-time position is for 27 months, with a starting salary of £30,424 per annum, rising by increments each year.

The School of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of Bristol is undertaking a major initiative to further strengthen its internationally competitive research base. To enhance the schools three research themes in cancer biology, infection and immunity and stem cell biology/tissue engineering the school is recruiting up to three new Lecturers or Senior Lecturers. With over 30 research groups in the School, and close relationships with other schools, there are extensive opportunities for collaboration within a world-class infrastructure. The positions will be based in the Medical Sciences building with access to outstanding core facilities (including Microscopy, Proteomics, and Genomics), opportunities to interact with
clinicians, and a rich environment for translational activities.

We are seeking new colleagues with outstanding research records, at least three years of postdoctoral experience, and who complement and enhance our current research activities. The successful candidates will be supported to establish an independent research team and will also contribute to the teaching of postgraduate and undergraduate students within the school and across the Faculty of Medical and Veterinary Sciences.
