Post Name: Tug Marine Engineer

As a Tug Marine Engineer, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all machinery and associated systems on board Port Otago owned and operated vessels under your control.

This is a full-time permanent relief role, principally based on the tugs. The Tug Engineers provide cover for 24hrs/day, attending to all ship handling work required while rostered on.

Post Name: Towage Engineer

As a Towage Engineer, you will be mainly responsible for:

  • The operation and maintenance of our tug assigned to our Backhoe Barge Operation (tug “Arihi” at present).
  • Provide overall maintenance responsibility for other vessels in the Backhoe Barge Operation. Including backhoe dredge barge Takutai”, split hopper barges “Hapuka” and “TR Healy”.

This role is Monday to Friday, 45 hours per week within the hours of 0600 to 1800, however some flexibility is required based on operational requirements.

To be successful in this role, applicants will need to have:

  • A true passion for Health & Safety with an excellent health and safety record and not is afraid to speak up!
  • A Maritime New Zealand Marine Engineer Certificate of Competency. MEC 4 qualification or higher preferred. Minimum qualification is MEC 5 – which may be acceptable if significant relevant experience can be demonstrated.
  • A Certificate of Medical Fitness.
  • Physical fitness to meet the demands of the role.

Things you should know:

Port Otago Marine Engineers will adhere to all relevant Maritime NZ operational and environmental regulations, whilst taking all applicable steps to ensure that all on water assets are performing at the expected standard. In addition to this, Engineers will ensure compliance with the Maritime Operators Safety System (MOSS) at all times, and take all practicable steps to maintain fitness for duty. The successful candidate will act in a way as to support an honest and cohesive team environment.
