– SCEGGS is seeking to appoint a passionate and enthusiastic music educator to the full time, permanent position of Director of Strings, commencing in Term 1.2019.

Post Name: Director of Strings (K-12)

Working collaboratively with the Head of Music, the Director of Strings is responsible for the development. Implementation and co-ordination of a dynamic and diverse K-12 string program across the school. They will be required to direct, manage and co-ordinate the string ensemble, including selecting repertoire and organizing performance opportunities. The successful applicant will also be required to teach some individual string lessons. Conduct and/or oversee the string ensembles and contribute to the broader co-curricular Music program of the school.

The successful applicant will have a deep love of music and the ability to foster this in young people. They will be able to demonstrate a deep understanding of the pedagogical principles of music education and more specifically, string playing and teaching. As an outstanding string educator, they will also have the ability to critically reflect on their own professional practice as well as be able to inspire, engage and encourage girls of all ages and ability levels. The successful applicant will also have the ability to work as part of a large and vibrant Music department, and will have excellent organizational, administrative and communication skills. Additional keyboard skills would be an advantage for this position.
