About 80 percent of our production is used for steel making of which one third is used by a local Kiwi steel mill. The Opportunity

Reporting to the Mine Manager, the Assistant Advisor Health, Safety and Training will support the Health and Safety Co-ordinator to ensure all mining and related activities are carried out in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Mining and Quarrying Operations Regulations 2016.

You will also be responsible for the coordination and continuous improvement of our Health and Safety Management System.

Additionally, this position includes the evaluating and reporting on the effectiveness of site occupational health and safety activities, monitoring safe handling of materials/substances and management of OHS system standards/procedures and the monitoring and evaluation of mine contractors and their obligations to comply with the statutory and company requirements.

You will have:

  • An interest in Health and Safety regulations and procedures
  • An understanding (or desire to learn) of OHS Legislation
  • Organize, collate, and file departmental safety related paperwork and inspection sheets.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with writing procedures and managing their implementation
  • Strong commitment to safety
  • Valid New Zealand Drivers Licence or equivalent.
