Canterbury Waste Services is an operating division of Waste Management NZ Ltd that provides waste disposal services in Canterbury. This includes the operation of the Kate Valley Regional Landfill near Waipara and the road transport fleet used to haul waste to the facility. CWS operates a fleet of modern truck and trailers that haul waste from a number of Refuse Transfer Stations around the wider Canterbury region to Waipara.

Post Name: Operations Supervisor

Leading a team of experienced Class 5 Drivers (11-13 people), you will use your extensive experience in transport logistics to ensure the safe and efficient running of our team and trucks – Safety being our priority. We role model the very best practices in heavy vehicle transport operations, as maintaining the trust and respect of the communities we serve is paramount. This position, which operates from our modern company premises office in Hornby, offers a perfect combination of being hands-on (moving plant around the region as required) as well as using logistics, planning and IT skills to enhance our operations year on year.

Some remote and weekend working will be required and an attractive remuneration package, including bonus and company vehicle, is on offer.

To be successful, you will have the following attributes:

• Previous experience of managing and motivating a team in a safety conscious industry
• Operational experience and appropriate licences to operate heavy trucks – Classes 1 & 5 required (minimum Class 4 as point of entry)
• Computer literacy with proven skills in managing transport, distribution and / or logistics
• Competence in modern plant maintenance planning and scheduling
• Have integrity and a professional approach when dealing with customers and stakeholders
• Physical fitness, sound written and interpersonal communication skills, possess a flair for problem solving in practical ways
• Good knowledge of current Waka Katahi (NZTA) regulations and standards
