Plumbers, Gas fitters and Drain layers Board consists of ten ministerially-appointed members representing both the trade and the public. A CE/Registrar is appointed by the Board and supported by 20 employees to undertake the Board’s day-to-day operations.

The purpose of the Plumbers \ Gas fitters, and Drain layers Board (PGDB) is to protect public health and safety in New Zealand by ensuring that plumbers, gasfitters and drain layers are competent and licensed.

The Board has developed markedly in the last 10 years and PGDB is now recognized as a modern, effective and innovative licensing body. It aims to be data-driven and evidence-based, for greater impact; capable through a skilled and knowledgeable workforce; sustainable; and focused.

Reporting to the Board, the Chief Executive will lead a small and highly competent Wellington based team.

You will be a successful executive leader with proven experience in a regulatory environment, or possess the transferable skills to provide leadership of an occupational licensing organization. Good appreciation of the government environment combined with sound political acumen is essential. An understanding of governance and reporting requirements to a Board would be beneficial.

We are looking for a constructive and insightful people leader with excellent relationship management and communication skills along with the ability to work well with diverse stakeholders. Sound financial and legal management is essential along with a track record of success in delivering complex services.
