Post Name: Head of Destination Development

The Head of Destination Development rote is the result of a Scholarship Fund, it is expected to have commensurate KPIs and reporting, in order to meet the terms of that agreement.
The position will be based at Tourism Fiji’s head office at Martintar, Nadi reporting to the Chief Operations Officer.
This exciting new role is for a result driven individual who has the passion for Fiji with collaborative abilities to build strong and trusting relationships with a wide range of stakeholders to develop and implement programs that support the growth of the destination’s visitor economy.
The Head of Destination Development is responsible for the initiation and support of tourism planning and development activities that expand tourism in Fiji. The person will work collaboratively both internally and with a broad range of external stakeholders to enrich the destination through projects and partnerships that will enhance tourism experiences in a way that is underpinned by productive, sustainable and inclusive tourism.

Additional responsibilities and duties include:

  • Lead the planning and execution of destination development projects, including tourism infrastructure development, tourism investment, product development, and community-based tourism initiatives.
  • Collaborate strategically and effectively with tourism stakeholders and businesses to activate the destination development strategy by identifying priorities, feasibility requirements and potential business case development.
  • Reach out to development partners, national governments, international financial institutions, regional and international agencies to partner in the advancement of values-based tourism products for the destination.
  • Identify and assist a minimum of 2 businesses every month, on average, to transition into tourism, and become ‘trade ready’.
  • Attract and report on investment projects, and ongoing liaison and status of projects through to completion.
  • Analyse, and report on key components of the targeted economic development opportunities with close attention to identifying trends and competitive insights to help the realization of Tourism Fiji’s corporate and destination development strategy.
  • Undertake market analysis of specific touristic resources and their potential for further development of new tourism products and events.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing the outcomes, key findings, and recommendations from workshops and events, and present them to the COO and other relevant stakeholders for strategic decision-making.
  • Represent Tourism Fiji at industry conferences, forums, and stakeholder meetings, delivering presentations and participating in panel discussions to showcase the destination’s development progress and opportunities.
  • Ensure that all destination development projects are aligned with Tourism Fiji’s sustainability and cultural preservation goals, and that they have a positive impact on our local communities.

The successful candidate will have :

  • A Bachelor’s degree from a recognised tertiary Institution in the field of Tourism and Marketing or any other related field. At least 5 years managerial experience is essential including demonstrated leadership experience in project management, program design, development and implementation.
  • Prior working knowledge of Fiji’s tourism and visitor sector environment
  • Strategic understanding of economic development, tourism strategy and destination management principles
  • Experience in building and maintaining good working relationships with diverse stakeholders who have different views and perspectives including those in leadership positions. Analyse complex and varied viewpoints, develop context and recommend actions.
  • Good project management and analytical skills
  • Enthusiastic, well-spoken, and good presentation and business writing skills.
  • Team player and demonstrate great initiative.
  • Is results driven, set goals, aggressively track results and produce accurate reports.

The work hours are from 0800 – 1630 hours (Mon – Thu) and upto 1600 hours on Fridays. Though working outside these hours is expected from time to time.
